Florence City Council June 3

Florence City Council June 3

June 3, 2025

Mayor Aubuchon-Metzger and all City Council members were present except Patricia Wingo.

The agenda was fairly quick despite all the points involved. Many points seemed to be presented for public record due to necessary administrative changes required in the city’s organization.

ZONING AGENDA POINTS

(1) A zoning map change at 56-58 Cavalier Blvd to allow office development on a two-acre site.

(2) Change of concept development at 7673-7777 Burlington Pike, between TA Travel Center and Waffle House, to allow Country Cabins to build what appears to be mostly a lawn furniture store. The lot is currently empty. Council member Whalen questioned whether the business was trying to “put too much stuff on a small site.”

(3) Consideration to put forward the Solar Ordinance and any proposed changes to it.

AGENDA POINT 4 –
Mayor Aubuchon discussed several board appointments.

AGENDA POINT 5 – Budget Amendment #2 was discussed. Evidently employee medical claim expenses are up and must be calculated into the budget.

AGENDA POINT 6 –
Mayor’s budget address.

AGENDA POINT 7 –
An HR position name change from assistant to director to more accurately indicate the amount and level of work entailed in the position.

AGENDA POINT 8 –
Mayor’s amendments to job descriptions.

AGENDA POINT 9 –
Personnel policy amendments.

AGENDA POINT 10 –
Director Eric Hall discussed the MARF (Municipal Aid Road Fund) and its relationship to the Transportation Improvement District.

AGENDA POINT 11 –
Mayor’s report
Community Open House June 8 at the new Fire Station 34 on Dream St. and Movies in the Park: Inside Out 2 (June 13) and Top Gun: Maverick (June 20)

AGENDA POINT 12 – Open Discussion
Zeb Gentry:
(1) concerns that the Solar Ordinance is too bureaucratic; (2) concerns about license plate readers across the city and resulting possible abuses of the Fourth Amendment.
