Florence City Council May 13

All City Council members except Councilwomen Angie Cable and Diane Whalen.

The Agenda did not match up with the speakers.  This was due to some of the speakers being late for the meeting.  Mayor Aubuchon-Metzger graciously made changes per the request of those present.

AGENDA POINT 5 – Honor Run Half Marathon.  Scott Spicher announced he is stepping down as the Honor Run President. He will be replaced by Bruce Taylor. This year’s Honor Run was able to collect $30,000, donated to veterans charities. Spicher gave credit to those who helped him, especially Ms. Spicher who was given full credit for the idea.

AGENDA POINT 6 – Oaths of Office for three officers new to the Florence Police Department: Dakota Brady, 3 years’ experience with the City of Independence; John Martini, and Aaron Spencer going to Police Academy as soon as possible. 

AGENDA POINT 7 – Proclaiming May 11-17, 2025, as National Police Week.

AGENDA POINT 8 – Proclaiming May 18-24, 2025, as National Public Works Week.

AGENDA POINT 9 – Presentation by Kevin P. Costello, Executive Director, Boone County Planning Commission: There was no presentation. Basically, Costello told the council to read the presentation he handed out and get back with him. The public did not get access to the content.

AGENDA POINT 10 – Ordinance O-9-2025.  Second Reading regarding Bluegrass Cannacare LLC. This was to change the zoning requirement from C2 to C3 for the site at 6809 Burlington Pike, Florence. Passed 4-0 by those present.

AGENDIA POINT 11 – Ordinance O-10-2025.  Second Reading for the Brew Team Coffee sited at 7303 Turfway Rd., Florence, next to Chipotle.
Passed 4-0 by those present.

AGENDA POINT 12 – Discussion and private action, Municipal Order MO-2-2025 , surplus city property for sale.
This will go live May 19. One example of property to be sold is a batch of swimming pool lounge chairs. Passed 4-0 by those present.

AGENDA POINT 13 – Authorizing the City to enter into a sharing agreement on landscaping with the Ky Dept of Transportation for property at 8535 to 8551 Evergreen Drive.

AGENDA POINT 14 – Mayor’s Report

  • City photo contest (ended May 15)
  • Memorial Day Parade May 26
  • New EMS #4 Open House
  • Free Movies in the Park on Fridays, June 14, 21 and 28, 8 to 10 p.m.

AGENDA POINT 15 – OTHER

Councilman Winn mentioned the Florence Y’Alls are doing well and had a player transferred to the Cincinnati Reds recently. Councilwoman Chambers wanted to recognize a teacher, Mr. Reed, for his music classes and being recognized for his teaching skills.

AGENDA POINT 16 – CLOSED SESSION.  The public meeting was adjourned for private discussions on city property issues.

There will be no meeting May 20 per Mayor Aubuchon-Metzger.
