Florence City Council December 17
The Florence City Council recognized officers who responded to a July 6 shooting incident, welcomed new firefighters and paramedics, welcomed and swore in members of the new council and covered other business.
Planning & Zoning December 4
Several proposals noted in previous reports passed unanimously during this meeting. Others wait either for public hearings or the Tech Committee meeting on December 18, with action to follow January 8.
Planning & Zoning November 20
The Planning and Zoning Commission continues to consider proposals for commercial and residential development. Much of the activity involves Florence locations. Of interest: a vote regarding solar farms in Boone County.
Florence City Council November 19
The Nov 19 meeting notes “the city is in compliance on all fronts” regarding its financial audit. Council members addressed issues related to medical cannabis and zoning concerns.

Public Library Board October 21
Residents continue to be frustrated by lack of support for the Chapin Memorial Library and for including a conservative publication in the library’s periodicals selection. The board addressed budget reports, expansion of the Florence branch, a proposed code of ethics and other matters.

The October 16 Planning & Zoning meeting saw the denial of one multi-family development proposal, with many attending to speak in opposition.
Planning & Zoning September 4
Nearly all proposals discussed at the September 4 Planning Commission meeting dealt with affordable housing options to meet the needs of the county’s growing population.
Planning & Zoning August 21
Proposals under consideration further expand multi-family development, including one by the developer of a single-family subdivision who committed in writing to not build multi-family units.
Planning & Zoning August 7
The report from the August 7 Planning & Zoning meeting includes new proposals for multi-family units off Mount Zion Road, Gunpowder Road, and Dixie Highway. Public hearings or final action on several proposals is scheduled for September 4.
