Infringement of 2nd Amendment Rights
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” – 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution
WHEREAS, the Second Amendment to the US Constitution is clear in its language that American Citizens have the right to keep and bear arms; AND
WHEREAS, common dictionaries, contemporary language, and historical intent, define the term “arms” to include weapons and firearms; AND
WHEREAS, the language “shall not be infringed” cannot be any clearer on the Founding Fathers intent to safeguard this important liberty and prohibit government overreach; AND
WHEREAS, any government action which restricts or limits American citizens from owning, carrying,
possessing, storing, using, transferring, buying, or selling firearms is by definition an infringement of
citizens’ rights; AND
WHEREAS, any addition of “requirements,” administrative burdens, wait-periods, age restrictions,
magazine limitations, firearm and ammunition manufacturing restrictions and liabilities, and other
“back-door” gun control measures have no legal justifications, and serve only to burden law-abiding
citizens; AND
WHEREAS, only law-abiding citizens heed new laws, not criminals; AND
WHEREAS, the violence problems in our country are not due to legal firearm ownership, but rather the predictable result of the moral degradation of our society, the removal of God from public institutions, fatherlessness, the deliberate attack on the traditional family, and mental illness, which contribute to people doing evil things; AND
WHEREAS, every compromise by Republicans on “common sense gun safety reform” is in reality the
slow death of the Second Amendment by legislation; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Boone County Republican Party calls on all local, state, and federal elected
representatives to immediately and permanently stop these so called “compromises” on gun control
and instead focus on the real issues plaguing our society such as mental illness and attacks on the
traditional family, and take concrete steps to protect the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens.
