Florence City Council January 21

Florence City Council January 21

January 21, 2025

Agenda Item One
A presentation by Todd Morgan, director of community development, regarding changes to a zoning plan and lot line for construction of a new hotel at approximately 5935 Merchant Street next to Kemba Credit Union. Basically, the Kemba Credit Union lot would be downsized and the hotel lot would be upsized.

Councilwoman Cable presented some concerns about potential inconveniences for people in the neighborhood, which is accessed by Greenville Road. City administrators stated there would be extensive work on the tree lines along the lot borders to, in the long term, restrict lines of sight from both sides of the respective lots; i.e., 6’ evergreen trees, which would be expected to grow over time to provide year-round coverage.

Council then went into private session with the intent to adjourn as soon as the session was over.

Florence resident Jim Leach has indicated he will pursue the open council position formerly held by he late David Osbourne.
