Fiscal Court November 4
Fiscal Court approved bids for a backhoe loader and pickup trucks for the Public Works Department; the former is being contested. Inspection of Salem Creek bridge is complete and recommendations are being followed.
Planning & Zoning October 29
The Planning Commission slated several proposals for final action on November 5. Several proposals remain with Tech Committee meetings in December.
Fiscal Court October 21
The Fiscal Court approved two appointments, announced a grant benefiting Boone County Water Rescue and awarded a bid on a multi-use path along Conrad Lane. The issue of ethics changes also was discussed; recommendations are postponed pending further research.
Florence City Council October 21
Florence City Council approved the second reading of the ordinance regarding the proposed Wawa at Hopeful Church Rd and US Highway 42. A police cruiser was transferred to Breathitt County High School’s Criminal Justice Program, part of the county’s effort to encourage careers in law enforcement and public safety.
Public Library Board October 20
Some grant applications are pending while the government is shut down, but the BCPL did receive a $10K grant from the Kentucky Arts Council. Citizens spoke about media they would like the library to offer.
Planning & Zoning October 15
The Planning Commission continues to address proposals for expanded residential development.
Florence City Council October 14
The proposed Wawa at Hopeful Church Rd and US Highway 42 generated significant discussion, and residents were on hand to voice their concerns on that issue as well as on solar panel arrays and the skate park.
Planning & Zoning October 1
Notably at the Planning Commission meeting, approval sought for a very dense residential development at 2063 Hathaway Road was denied. A proposal for a similarly dense development will come before the Tech Committee on October 15.
Public Library Board September 15
The Library Board heard from the director and accountant, progressed toward the director’s annual evaluation, among other business.
Planning & Zoning September 3
Dense development along Hathaway Rd is back on the Planning Commission agenda, with final action to be taken October 1. Three other housing developments also are under consideration.
