Public Library Board May 19
The Boone County Public Library Board addressed concerns about vagrants using libary property to sleep and use drugs; questions regarding the Chapin Memorial Library; the Board’s search for grant funding; questions about staff reimbursement processes; sale of the Hebron branch’s undeveloped land; and other issues.
Fiscal Court May 6
The meeting saw continued discussion of the proposed Home2Suites hotel between Richwood and Frontage roads and approval of the control swap of Hicks Pike and Chambers Road. Additionally, several contracts were awarded, among other items of business.
Public Library Board April 21
The Library Board continued to discuss how to use 16 undeveloped acres adjacent to the Hebron branch and whether the executive director should be evaluated publicly or in closed session.
Public Library Board March 17
Public Library Executive Director Carrie Herrmann presented the initial budget for 2026 and the status of three bills before the General Assembly related to libraries. Further discussion focused on how the executive director’s regular evaluation should be conducted.

Highlights from the Boone County Public Library Board February meeting held at the main branch in Burlington include a presentation about the Archive & History Center’s genealogy database, the fiscal year audit, and applications for new trustees.
Public Library Board November 18
Notably, the public comment period has been moved nearer to the beginning of the meeting than at the end. Information included an analysis of periodicals for bias, discussion of the Chapin Memorial Library and expansion of the Florence branch, engagement with the new Walton branch and review of board and staff codes of conduct.
Public Library Board August 19
The August 19 meeting introduced two new library employees and discussed such issues as wi-fi and hotspot access, progress on the new Walton branch, residents’ use of the Chapin Memorial Library, fiscal reports, sale of library property and other issues.
Public Library Board July 15
The July 15 meeting brought Petersburg residents some positive acknowledgement regarding the Chapin Memorial Library and two new trustees dug into issues and accounting procedures.
Public Library Board June 17
The Public Library Board developed the acronym CARES to encompass its core values: Community, Access, Respect, Empowerment and Stewardship. The report also focuses on the proposed Archive & History Center, Petersburg residents’ continued frustration over their local branch and possible sales and purchases of property.
Public Library Board May 20
Discussion at the May 20 Library Board meeting included a proposal to fund homebuying assistance for public employees; financial and budget reports; further discussion about a Drees development of unused library land; status of the Chapin Memorial Library; the Walton branch; a Revolutionary War plaque; candidates for employment; incidents requiring law enforcement intervention; a Dolly Parton Imagination Library grant; and concern that the Library Board discriminates against conservative views in its choice of periodicals.
