Florence City Council October 14
The proposed Wawa at Hopeful Church Rd and US Highway 42 generated significant discussion, and residents were on hand to voice their concerns on that issue as well as on solar panel arrays and the skate park.
Planning & Zoning October 1
Notably at the Planning Commission meeting, approval sought for a very dense residential development at 2063 Hathaway Road was denied. A proposal for a similarly dense development will come before the Tech Committee on October 15.
Public Library Board September 15
The Library Board heard from the director and accountant, progressed toward the director’s annual evaluation, among other business.
Planning & Zoning September 3
Dense development along Hathaway Rd is back on the Planning Commission agenda, with final action to be taken October 1. Three other housing developments also are under consideration.

The public hearing regarding housing of greater density along Hathaway Road that was postponed by the applicant is back on the schedule for September 3.

Notable at this meeting were motions to be more responsive to issues raised by members of the public and allow more time for public comments.

Of note, two Hathaway Rd projects have been either withdrawn or postponed by their applicants. Final action of several proposals is scheduled for August 6.

Boone County School Board June 12
The Boone County School Board’s two conservative members voted no to Panorama. The school board spends $219K+ on Panorama, which the education services company says “collect[s] and act[s] on essential student behavior data” and provides “a valid and reliable survey tool to measure student perceptions of teaching and learning,” among other data collection applications. With the death of Planning Commission member Kenny Vaught, decisions scheduled for this meeting were delayed until July 2. The commission continues to field proposals for residential development and development of Union Promenade.
