Notable at this meeting were motions to be more responsive to issues raised by members of the public and allow more time for public comments.

Of note, two Hathaway Rd projects have been either withdrawn or postponed by their applicants. Final action of several proposals is scheduled for August 6.

Boone County School Board June 12
The Boone County School Board’s two conservative members voted no to Panorama. The school board spends $219K+ on Panorama, which the education services company says “collect[s] and act[s] on essential student behavior data” and provides “a valid and reliable survey tool to measure student perceptions of teaching and learning,” among other data collection applications. Planning & Zoning June 4
With the death of Planning Commission member Kenny Vaught, decisions scheduled for this meeting were delayed until July 2. The commission continues to field proposals for residential development and development of Union Promenade.
Interim Session Begins June 2
In a recent update, Sen. Steve Rawlings (District 11) noted, “The interim provides an opportunity to review, communicate, and consider policy measures for the 2026 Legislative Session, which will begin on Tuesday, January 6.” He also summarized selected legislation passed during the regular session,
Planning & Zoning May 7
The controversial Conrad Ln/Carry Back Dr proposal ended with the applicant withdrawing his request. Residents of West Brooke Estates and others along Hathaway Rd turned out to oppose a proposal. A public hearing is scheduled for June 4 regarding a zoning change on Hathaway between Big Bone Rd and Enclave Dr.
Fiscal Court April 8
Among other issues, the Fiscal Court addressed continuing controversy over a proposed four-story hotel, a truck stop, and the Hicks Pike-Chambers Road swap. This report includes a link to a detailed appendix.
Union City Commission April 7
Plans for Union’s Pocket Parks are proceeding, decisions were reached on signage for Union Promenade and a number of new Municipal Orders were approved. The commission also is faced with finding new storage for salt for snow and ice treatment. New: future meetings will begin at 6 p.m.
