Florence City Council April 8
Mayor Aubuchon-Metzger announced a public hearing regarding installation of solar panels in the city will be held April 19 after the regular council meeting, and the deadline to apply for the Public Works Academy is May 9.
Union City Commission April 7
Plans for Union’s Pocket Parks are proceeding, decisions were reached on signage for Union Promenade and a number of new Municipal Orders were approved. The commission also is faced with finding new storage for salt for snow and ice treatment. New: future meetings will begin at 6 p.m.
Planning & Zoning April 2
Final action on the controversial condo development on Conrad Ln has finally been set for May 7, and a 5-story hotel on Paddock Rd has been proposed for land meant by the comprehensive plan to benefit local residents, not interstate traffic.
Fiscal Court March 25
The court addressed staffing for the Parks Department and the Public Safety Communications Center; bid awards for waste management; disposal of surplus equipment; the Hicks Pike-Chambers Road swap; landfill contracts; and tornado siren activation.
Florence City Council March 25
Among issues discussed by Florence City Council were a request for signage adjustment for a new business; learner’s permits for 15-year-old drivers; and status of the city’s swimming pool. Three members of the public brought concerns, including ongoing issues with drivers speeding through the Plantation Point and Weatherington neighborhoods.
Planning & Zoning March 19
With the six-month assessment period about the expire, the Boone County Planning Commission continues to grapple with proposed condo development at Conrad Rd across from Carry Back Dr. Other projects include new hotels.
Florence City Council March 18
First on the council’s agenda was discussion of policies governing solar panel installation. Related, the council voted unanimously to hold another public meeting when working people can attend.
Public Library Board March 17
Public Library Executive Director Carrie Herrmann presented the initial budget for 2026 and the status of three bills before the General Assembly related to libraries. Further discussion focused on how the executive director’s regular evaluation should be conducted.

A busy Fiscal Court session saw approval of several contracts and purchases; a proposed solution for training dispatchers; input from several Orleans Blvd residents regarding increasing dangers posed by drivers who ignore speed limits; and a proposal to eliminate dog license fees.
