Florence City Council February 4
Florence City Council heard a presentation by the Montrose Group on transportation issues and discussed collection of occupational taxes, the existing waste collection contract; the city’s credit rating; and snow emergency and parking ordinances.
Union City Commission February 3
The Union City Commission meeting was notable for the appointment of three new commissioners without a new vote after the results of the Nov. 5 election were thrown out.
Florence City Council January 28
Florence City Council approved a zoning change to accommodate a new hotel on Merchants Street; noted upcoming events at the Florence City Complex; recognized outstanding work by firefighters/paramedics Christian Ritchie and Ryan Johnston; and met in closed session to select the replacement to fill the seat left vacant by the death of David Osborne.
Public Library Board January 27
Among other agenda items, Library Board members disagreed concerning the quantity of LGBTQ+ materials in the Boone County Public Library system. In less contentious news, historical prints by Carolyn Williams, an artist whose illustrations of the area appeared in the Cincinnati Enquirer for more than 50 years, were discovered at the old Walton branch.
Planning & Zoning January 22
Public hearings were set regarding a proposed medical marijuana dispensary and a coffee shop, both in Florence, a hotel on the Frogtown Connector, and changes to use on Mineola Park, among others. Action on the contentious proposal for Conrad Lane at Carry Back Drive continues to be deferred.
Florence City Council January 21
Council members heard a presentation regarding construction of a new hotel on Merchant Street, and a Florence resident indicated his intent to pursue the open council seat formerly held by the late David Osborne.
